Site Reliability Engineer

This role can be based anywhere in the U.S.

Summary:

We’re moving our technical operations in the following direction. This is a chance to join our technical leadership, roll up your sleeves, and advance our infrastructure as code and other efforts to build a flexible, top notch set of services with the rest of the team. Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is an engineering discipline that combines software and systems engineering to build and run scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Prognos’ services—both our internally critical and our externally-visible systems—have reliability and uptime appropriate to client’s needs and a fast rate of improvement while keeping an ever-watchful eye on capacity and performance.

Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. SREs are responsible for the big picture of how our systems relate to each other, we use a breadth of tools and approaches to solve a broad spectrum of problems. Practices such as limiting time spent on operational work, retrospectives and proactive identification of potential outages factor into iterative improvement that is key to both product quality and interesting and dynamic day-to-day work.

Behind everything our clients receive is the architecture built by the dev teams and Security & Technical Operations (STO) team, who together keep it running. Through building the next generation of platforms, we make the Prognos product portfolio grow. We're always on call to keep our systems up and running, ensuring our clients have the best experience possible.

Engineers are important to us, so we provide excellent tools to help you craft amazing products. Our group is optimized for engineer happiness and we try to keep the company "overhead" to a minimum at all times.

There is freedom to work wherever, whenever you want, as long as all the team’s work gets done. We recognize that our practices can impinge on exactly where and when, and we do have other requirements that limit that privilege, but the freedom is greatly intact. We are occasionally in the NY, US based office to help keep our sense of ourselves alive and have some fun with our co-workers. You can expect to do some pair programming as well as work independently on various projects. We use late model MacBook Pros, and when we're in the office it's a quiet workplace free of unnecessary distractions. There's a company-wide expectation of both personal and professional excellence.

Free food, snacks, drinks, are available as well the myriad choices that surround the office in FIDI.

We work a lot in Go, Terraform, Ansible & AWS. We‘re using containers and No-Ops/Serverless. Most of our stuff is “right sized” services decoupled by events/messaging.
